THE DISCOVERY TOUR:
We are out bear viewing and exploring for several hours a day – in general, we are out on the water for an average of 6 hours every day. Our tour boat is designed to view bears quietly in shallow water throughout the inlet's extensive sedge flats and estuary, starting directly across from our lodge. Our covered tour boat also ensures that you can focus on the bears rather than keeping your camera gear dry. Viewing opportunities are excellent throughout May to September. The Khutzeymateen is world renowned for the predictability of viewing grizzly bears in a wilderness environment. Its location is remote, and it is incredibly quiet.

EARLY SPRING SEASON
The bears are emerging from hibernation this time of year and feeding primarily on the early sedge throughout the inlet, and digging clams. Early courting and mating activity can be seen.
3 full days depart 4th morning $3400

4 full days depart 5th morning $4500
May 17 to July 23
SPRING / SUMMER SEDGE SEASON
This is our prime bear viewing season in the Khutzeymateen. The bears are in full sedge feeding mode and can be found throughout the Khutzeymateen Inlet. Mating season begins to intensify as more bears emerge throughout the entire inlet. Courtship and mating are common. Sows and cubs may also emerge as they too need the sedge and clams to replenish after the long winter fast.
3 full days depart 4th morning $3740
4 full days depart 5th morning $4950
5 full days depart 6th morning (June 10-15 only) $5900
July 23 to August 6
SUMMER SEDGE, BERRIES, EARLY SALMON SEASON
As the sedge begins to die off and become less palatable for the bears, they begin to feed on berries and other vegetation. With the mating season slowing down the sows and cubs are often more active. Some years the pink salmon start returning to the creeks and bears fishing as early as the 3rd week in July. With the humpback whales returning to the North Coast, we will go on a whale watching tour on your trip.
3 full days depart on the 4th morning $3250
4 full days depart on the 5th morning $4300
August 6 to September 19
SALMON SEASON
We are fortunate to have 5 main creeks throughout the Khutzeymateen Inlet with Pink salmon returns. Additionally, we have the main Khutzeymateen River, where there are Pink, Chum and Coho salmon runs. The creeks and rivers start to fill with salmon at the end of July and early August. Like all salmon/ Bear viewing sites, the viewing success is based on the health of the salmon runs and creek and river levels. This time of year is also great for viewing humpback whales, sea lions, and seal viewing. The inlet also comes alive with hundreds of eagles, gulls, herons, and other waterfowl.
3 full days depart 4th morning $3500
4 full days depart 5th morning $4650
